CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, – – The provincial government recently opened its newly constructed isolation facility for COVID-19 patients.
Governor Ferdinand Tubban led Inter-Agency Task Force members in the ribbon cutting and formal opening of the facility located at the compound of the Gabriela Mija Kim Medical Center in barangay Agbannawag, this city.
In Balbalan, the Catholic-owned St. Teresita’s School (STS) building was converted as a temporary COVID-19 treatment facility while construction of the LGU Municipal Treatment Facility is ongoing.
Municipal Health Officer Roselle Calma said the STS rooms will serve for the mean time as municipal quarantine and treatment facility for COVID-19 patients. She related the presence of more than 400 returning locally stranded individuals and Overseas Filipino Workers prompted the LGU to prepare for the quarantine and treatment of positive cases.
She expressed the LGU’s gratitude to Fr. Jake Cawas, STS school director, for allowing the use of the school until December this year rent-free.
Rev. Fr. Cawas said he only asked the LGU to pay electric bills used in occupying the building and to rehabilitate the water supply line of the school.
STS has another school building about one kilometer away from the requested treatment facility for use of students.
Meanwhile, Tanudan LGU is constructing a gymnasium at Banagao, Poblacion to serve as an alternative COVID-19 isolation facility.
Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag said the LGU budgeted PhP4.7 million for the gym cum isolation unit. It will serve its purpose as a sports center when the virus threat is put under control,” he said. **JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga
