CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) — The Provincial Development Council (PDC) here unequivocally supports several project proposals for funding from the regular funds of the national government and special projects under Official Development Assistance from foreign financial donors.
The PDC chaired by Gov. Jocel Baac and composed of heads of local offices, national line agencies and the private sector, expressed unity of support to two calendared projects for implementation this year and tackled the endorsement of five development packages to the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) during its second quarter meeting recently.
The P100-million Chico River Flood Control is up for bidding after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) allotted initial funding for an 18-kilometer long, 300-meters wide re-channeling project to protect agricultural lands and settlements from perennial flooding.
Under the Conditional Matching Grant for the Provinces (CMGP) formerly the Kalsada program, upgrading of the Cabaruan-Socbot and Cabaritan-Dugpa provincial roads were recently bidded out with P99M and P74M funding, respectively.
The PDC endorsed to NEDA five provincial roads proposed for upgrading under CMGP in 2018. These are the upgrading of the 7-km. Mallango-Belong-Sumadel provincial road – P87.5M; 6.5 km. Balicniagao-Magsilay-Amdalao road – P81M; 6 km. Balantoy-Dao-angan road P75M; 8 km. Pinukpuk Junction-Pakawit road – P100M; and the 16 km. Dalnacan-Mangali via Taloctoc Road – P192.5M.
Three barangays were also proposed to be covered by the 2nd Cordillera Highland Agricultural Management Project (CHARMP2). These are Lower Taloctoc in Tanudan, Bugnay in Tinglayan, and Balinciagao Sur in Pasil. Proposed were almost P70 million-worth new projects for the rural infrastructure development of said barangays.
CHARMP2 scale-up is a two year additional financing of development projects for 18 new barangays within the six provinces in the Cordilleras.
Also endorsed are seven road projects leading to tourist destinations in the province with total cost of P1.3 billion under the Department of Tourism and DPWH convergence program.
Seven other road projects costing almost P2 billion were also proposed under the DTI-DPWH Roads Leveraging Linkages of Industry and Trade (ROLL-IT) to support local industries and establish product links to their market. **PIA Kalinga
