BAGUIO CITY(PIA) — the Department of Health – Cordillera Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD CAR) is gearing up for a massive immunization campaign to ensure every child is fully protected against measles and rubella.
“Our goal is to ensure that every child is protected. This campaign is part of our continuous effort to build a healthier and safer community for everyone,” stated Joycelyn Rillorta Nurse V of the National Immunization Program (NIP) of DOH-CHD CAR during the recent UHC Sirib Series.
Rillorta emphasized that while the program has achieved milestones, continuous protection is key.
“Vaccination remains one of the most effective public health interventions. By ensuring high coverage, we are not just preventing diseases, we are saving lives and securing a better future for our children,” she said.
The vaccination drive is scheduled from August 10 to 28, 2026, covering all provinces and cities in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
All children ages six months to 59 months (under 5 years old) are invited to receive the free Measles-Rubella vaccine, regardless of their previous immunization status.
Along with the vaccine, children will also receive Vitamin A supplementation.
“Kasama po ito para mas lumakas ang kanilang resistensya at maiwasan ang komplikasyon,” Rillorta added.
To ensure the effectiveness and safety of the vaccines, health teams will strictly follow the “Fixed-Post Strategy”.
“Gumagamit tayo ng fixed-posts dahil ang bakuna ay sensitive sa init at liwanag. Sa ganitong paraan, sigurado tayong epektibo at ligtas ang ibibigay natin sa bawat bata (We use fixed-posts because the vaccine is sensitive to heat and light. This way, we ensure that what we give to every child is effective and safe),” she explained.
Vaccination sites will be conveniently set up in accessible areas such as rural health units , barangay halls, basketball courts, daycare centers, and churches.
