Mayor Benjamin Magalong said he will meet once again with the Summer Capital’s public utility vehicle (PUV) associations and request them to extend their operating hours for the sake of the riding public.
During Monday’s flag-raising rites at City Hall, March 11, he said the city government has already made several similar requests to PUV (jeepney and taxi) operators in order to accommodate those needing public transportation especially at night.
The Mayor was informed that some passengers allegedly have no choice but to take ‘colorum’ taxis or jeepneys especially in the evenings due to the lack of PUVs plying during that time.
However, he stressed that the city government will not allow colorum PUVs to pick up passengers at any time since this will be unfair to operators of legitimate PUVs and that the city is governed by the rule of law.
“Rule of law tayo. Good governance dictates that the rule of law should prevail. We can never go wrong in implementing the law,” the Mayor said.
“Kung gusto nila ma-legitimate iyong kanilang mga sasakyan, kailangan ipa-register nila sa LTO at LTFRB. Besides walang insurance iyan, paano kung may mangyari? Kailangan ipatupad talaga natin yung batas,” he added.**Gaby B. Keith
