“Metallic mineral production value in the Cordillera Administrative Region slightly increased by 4% from 13,603,741,700.00 in 2021 to 14,148,928,475 in 2022.” This was revealed by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Cordillera Administrative Region’s Director Fay W. Apil, in the News Conference hosted by the Philippine Statistics Authority on April 27, 2023 at the Garden Plaza Hotel in Baguio City.
Moreover, the regional director shared that a total of P478 Million excise tax was paid by the four operating mines in Benguet, aside from the occupation fees collected at P779,737.00. The Social Development and Management Programs (SDMP) posted a total of 159.7 million expenditure for the year 2022.
On the other hand, sand and gravel production for the same period declined by 51% and 40% in volume and value, nevertheless, an estimated P10 million worth of extraction fees were collected by the local government units from these commodities.
She also bared that growth in the regional mineral industry is incorporated in the roadmap planned by the bureau for the coming years. The roadmap aims to sustain the development of the sector and is divided into three phases which include 1. Enhancing investors confidence in the minerals sector; 2. Expanding domestic ore production and mineral asset; and 3. Leveling-up to the global mineral markets in the field of semi-processed and fully processed mineral products.
