LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) – This capital town will soon have a state-of-the-art private motor vehicle inspection center (PMVIC) to ascertain the road-worthiness of private and public motor vehicles for the safety of the riding public.
The sons and daughters of Casio Palberas Paris together with officials of the Land Transportation Office – Cordillera and the local government of La Trinidad held the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the CPP Motor Vehicle Inspection Center in barangay Puguis recently.
Oscar Paris, representing the family, said that the CPP Baguio-Benguet Emission Testing Center will be upgraded and will be turned into a modern and more functional PMVIC to serve Benguet and the nearby provinces. The CPP started operation in 2003 and is one of the pioneer emission testing centers in the province.
PMVICs are privately-owned, automated vehicle inspection facilities that will not only check the vehicle’s compliance with emission standards but will also test for roadworthiness prior to the renewal of its registration.
While the facility is seen as a private business establishment, Paris said that they see to it that their facility is more than a just a business but a public service because they have to ensure that the vehicles being serviced are roadworthy and safe for motorists and the general public.
On behalf of LTO-CAR Regional Director Francis Rey Almora, Legal Officer Atty. Jessie Balagot commended the CPP owners for putting priority to public service rather than the business side, adding that their agency expects that the operators do their tasks fearfully, faithfully and comply with the issuances of the LTO and the government.
The CPP is one of the seven PMVICs being eyed by the LTO-CAR for the implementation of the required automated motor vehicle inspection to ascertain the road-worthiness of private and public motor vehicles for the safety of the riding public.
Almora earlier said LTO is inclined to implement the establishment of PMVICs in strategic areas in the different provinces and cities of the Cordillera region as a way of ensuring road safety.
The ground breaking ceremony was also graced by LTO-CAR Assistant Regional Directors Ibrahim Nazzir and Jennilyn Avelino, and La Trinidad Councilors Teddy Walang, John Botiwey and Francis Lee.** JDP/RMC- PIA CAR
