BONTOC, Mtn. Province – The first set of provincial officials, appointed and elected, and all past governors and congressmen will be honored with Plaques of Recognition on April 7, 2017.
The first set of appointed provincial officials, after the division of the old Mountain Province in 1967, were Alfredo Lamen, Sr. as Governor, Victor Dominguez as Vice Governor, and Pio Felwa and Alejo Manao as Board Members. Luis Hora was the congressman.
Governor Lamen, Vice Governor Jaime Gomez, and Board Members Alejo Manao and Alfonso Layog were the first set of elected provincial officials in 1968.
Included in the honorees are the succeeding congressmen, governors with all the officers-in-charge of the offices of the province will be highlighted specially during the reign of the revolutionary government of Cory Aquino when many government officials were substituted with appointed OICs.
The Committee on Recognition Awards met several times to document the honorees and to contact those who will receive the honors for those who passed away. Their respective children were contacted.
Among the OICs were Saturnino Moldero, Jr., Nicasio Aliping, Modesto Calde, and John Likigan.
Congressman Dominguez had the longest service in office as the representative of the province in Congress, while Maximo Dalog was the longest serving governor.
Atty. Amador Batay-an, who conceptualized this said that the event is to recognize the dedicated service, effort and contributions of the honorees that helped the province beome what it is now.** Roger Sacyaten
