BAGUIO CITY – The City Government will not issue building permits for structures exceeding three meters in height situated near and under high-voltage transmission lines.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan directed the City Buildings and Architecture Office under building official Engr. Nazita Banez to heed the request of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) not to issue building permit to said structures.
NGCP President and Chief Executive Officer Henry Sy Jr. said rampant right-of-way (ROW) violations have been noted in the locality particularly the “deliberate planting of tall trees and intentional building of houses and structures near and under high-voltage transmission lines (causing) disturbances in the transmission of power and posing threat to the safety of the public.”
He said the city government can help by refraining from issuing permits for structures more than three meters in height in areas within the ROW corridor.
“With your support in ensuring that ROW and safety clearances are followed, we can work together on preventing electrocution accidents and power interruptions in the areas hosting the transmission lines,” Sy said.
According to the NGCP there are three high-voltage transmission lines in the locality – the La Trinidad-Sablan 69kV lines, La Trinidad-Bauang 230kV lines and the Beckel-Kias 23kV line. ** Aileen P. Refuerzo
