BAGUIO CITY December 06 – The Philippine National Police (PNP) transmitted to City Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan the new shortlist of qualified senior police officers from which the next City Director of the Baguio city Police Office (BCPO) will be chosen by the local screening committee that will be convened for the said purpose.
The new shortlist was transmitted by Chief Superintendent Rolando Z. Nana, regional director of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera, who stated that the local chief executive is given at least 10 days to recommend his choice for the next BCPO chief.
Among those included in the shortlist are Senior Superintendent Agustin Tello, former BCPO City Director Senior Superintendent George D. Daskeo, former Benguet Provincial Police Office Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Florante Camuyot, Senior Superintendent Pedro Suliba and incumbent BCPO Acting City Director Eliseo Tanding.
Earlier, the PNP transmitted to Mayor Domogan the first shorlist of the qualified senior police officers from whom he will select the next BCPO chief but the local chief executive returned to the PNP the said shortlist after two of the recommended candidates begged off from the screening process because they were appointed to higher positions in the police force, thus, he requested that the PNP complete the list to allow the screening committee to have a chance to select the next BCPO chief from the willing applicants.
Domogan explained that while it is true that he is empowered to immediately select the next BCPO chief from the submitted list of applicants, he decided to create a local screening committee composed of a number of department heads and representatives from the barangays, religious, business and media sectors who will evaluate the qualifications of the applicants and vote for the deserving police official who will be recommended to occupy the vacated post of BCPO chief.
The local screening committee required the applicants for City Director to submit their complete personal data sheet, performance ratings for two successive semesters, particularly the last semester of 2017 and the first semester of 2018 and a comprehensive program that will be implemented when he will be appointed to the position.
Further, the applicants will be subjected to an interview by the members of the local screening committee on a date that will be scheduled for the purpose for them to answer pertinent issues on the prevailing peace and order situation in the city and the implementation of the appropriate strategies to curb the proliferation of crimes among other activities that pose a serious threat to life and limb.
Under the previous practice of the local governments, a team will be formed to conduct a background investigation on the applicants which will be included as part of the reports that will be evaluated by the members of the local screening committee once they will be required to render the selection.
Domogan said that the police officer that will emerge with the highest votes will be the one that will be recommended to the PNP headquarters for appointment as the next BCPO City Director who will have a tour of duty of at least two years.
