A drowning case in Kalinga
A 19-year-old college student died while trying to save his drowning cousins at the Chico River in Brgy. Calanan, Tabuk City, Kalinga on the afternoon of March 30, 2023.
According to Tabuk City Police Station (CPS), the victim together with his cousins and some friends went to the river to celebrate the birthday of their companion.
While swimming, the victim noticed his two cousins were drowning so he immediately called his male friends and tried to rescue his cousins ,however, the victim got caught in the river’s strong current and failed to make it to the river bank.
His friends immediately called for help from the residents near the place. They also sought help from the police officers of Tabuk CPS, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)- Tabuk City, and personnel of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) of Kalinga.
The responding team conducted a search and rescue operation and found the victim unconscious underwater. They brought the body to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

SIX BENGUET COPS
In recognition of their notable accomplishments, six (6) police officers from Benguet Police Provincial Office (BPPO) were awarded with PNP medals during the First Command Visit of the Regional Director, PBGEN DAVID K PEREDO, JR., on April 4, 2023.
PBGEN PEREDO JR. presented the awards and he was assisted by PCOL DAMIAN D OLSIM, the Provincial Director of Benguet PPO, and the other members of the Benguet PPO Command Group.
Medalya ng Kagalingan (Medal of Merit) was given to PMAJ JOSHUA B MATEO and PCpl Blanco T Agagon, Jr of La Trinidad Municipal Police Station (MPS) for the successful arrest in Baguio City of an individual listed as the No. 7 Most Wanted Person at the Provincial Level for the 1st Quarter of CY 2023.
The same award was given to PMSg Mark S Saoyao and Pat Rhodallyn V Dagman of Tuba MPS for the successful arrest of an individual for the crime of murder issued by the Community Corrections Officer of the Braunschweig County Court of Germany on January 31, 2023 in Tuba, Benguet.
Meanwhile, Medalya ng Kasanayan (PNP Efficiency Medal) was awarded to PSSg Jasmin Apple F Salve and PCpl Mambi J Fuchigami of Itogon MPS for the arrest of an individual for Acts of Lasciviousness in relation to RA 7610 on March 15, 2022 in Itogon, Benguet.
