As PRO Cordillera cops continue to step up their efforts to combat illegal drug activities in the region, anti-illegal drug operatives have successfully eradicated over P148 million worth of Fully Grown Marijuana Plants (FGMJP) and arrested an individual for selling illegal drugs from May 3–5, 2024.
In Kalinga, joint anti-illegal drugs operatives of the Special Operations Unit-Cordillera, PNP Drug Enforcement Group, Regional Intelligence Unit, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15, the different units of Kalinga Police Provincial Office (PPO), PDEA CAR, 11 SAB PNP SAF, 503rd Brigade Philippine Army, and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency launched a three-day marijuana eradication operation in Barangay Buscalan and Loccong, in the municipality of Tinglayan that resulted in the discovery of PhP148,500,000.00 worth of FGMJP and 225 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops.
Moreover, 350 pieces of FGMJP with a Standard Drug Price of PhP70,000.00 were also discovered by the anti-illegal drugs operatives of Benguet PPO in Brgy. Damuco, Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet. All marijuana plants found were uprooted and burned on-site, with samples collected for qualitative testing by the Regional Forensic Unit-Cordillera.
Meanwhile, in Abra, joint operatives from Bangued Municipal Police Station, and Abra Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit apprehended a 38-year-old tricycle driver, identified as a Street Level Individual, after he sold one sachet of suspected shabu weighing More or Less (MOL) 0.33 grams with a Standard Drug Price (SDP) of PhP2,244.00 to an operative who acted as a poseur buyer.
During the course of his arrest, another three sachets of suspected shabu weighing MOL 1.14 grams with an SDP of PhP7,752.00 were confiscated from the suspect’s possession. He is now taken into the custody of Bangued MPS for documentation and proper legal procedures, facing charges for violating R.A. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

As part of PRO Cordillera’s intensified anti-illegal drugs campaign, the PRO Cordillera Regional Director, PBGEN DAVID K PEREDO, JR, spearheaded the burning of Php30,000,000.00 worth of marijuana plants in Brgy Buscalan, Tinglayan, Kalinga on May 7, 2024.
During the operation, the Regional Director together with the Deputy Regional Director for Operations, PCOL ELMER E RAGAY; the Chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division, PCOL JAMES D MANGILI; the Deputy Chief of the Regional Intelligence Division, PLTCOL NIXON L LAOYAN; the Chief of the Regional Public Information Office, PLTCOL CAROLINA F LACUATA; and the Provincial Director of Kalinga Police Provincial Office, PCOL FREDDIE M LAZONA, uprooted and burned more than 150,000 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants with a Standard Drug Price of Php30,000,000.00 planted in a 5,000-square meter plantation site in Mount Chumanchil.
The said operation was made successful in collaboration with the Brigade Commander of the 503rd Infantry (Peace and Justice) Brigade, Philippine Army, BGEN ROMUALDO RAYMUND B LANDINGIN; the Regional Director of PDEA-CAR, Director III Laurefel P Gabales; the PNP Drug Enforcement Group Special Operations Unit; the Philippine Coast Guard; and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency.
Further, this is also the result of PRO Cordillera’s continuous adherence to the guidance of the Chief PNP, PGEN ROMMEL F MARBIL, and is also in line with the intensified campaign of President Ferdinand R Marcos, Jr.’s administration under the “Bagong Pilipinas” program together with the Secretary of Department of Interior and Local Government, Sec. Benjamin Abalos, Jr.
