Surveyor nabbed for illegal possession of firearm
A private surveyor will be facing charges for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, after being caught in possession of s homemade firearm in Bangued, Abra on October 9, 2021. He was identified as Edward Benedick Carayoan Espiritu, 35, and a resident of Tanobong, San Isidro, Abra
A concerned citizen reported personally to Bangued MPS and sought police assistance due to an on-going commotion at Santiago Street, Zone 5 in the said municipality.
Immediately, police officers responded and upon arrival at the place, they saw in plain view a firearm tucked on the suspect’s back. Immediately, the police officers arrested him.
The gun was a home made Cal. 22 revolver with four (4) live ammunition.
The person was brought to Abra Provincial Hospital for medico legal examination and subsequently to Bangued MPS for documentation and filing of appropriate charges against him.
PROCOR deployed personnel to help during the storm
Acting on the instructions of the Regional Director, PBGEN RONALD OLIVER LEE, a total of 1,235 Search and Rescue (SAR) trained personnel were placed on stand-by for possible deployment in response to Typhoon Maring.
Of the more than one thousand personnel, 518 were actually deployed to conduct rescue, relief, road clearing and other disaster response operations, while the 735 Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) were on high alert for any possible deployment.
Before the anticipated landfall of the typhoon, PBGEN LEE instructed the different units of PROCOR to coordinate with their Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils (LDRRMC) to synchronize preparations with their respective local government units.
As of October 13, 2021, 10 areas were reportedly flooded particularly in Baguio and Benguet. 40 municipalities had no electricity: 27 in Abra, 10 in Benguet and 3 in Mtn Province. Meanwhile, 26 areas were without Cellular Communication Signals: 8 in Abra, 10 in Benguet and 8 in Ifugao.
Also, there were 51 roads not passable: 13 in Abra; 4 in Apayao; 5 in Baguio; 25 in Benguet; and 4 in Mtn Province.
Field reports disclosed that there were 6 casualties– one in Baguio City and 5 in Benguet; 8 injured– 2 in Baguio City and 6 in Benguet; and 2 missing both in Baguio City. Four rescue operations were conducted in Baguio City and Benguet that resulted in the rescue of 2 persons.
5 arrested for drugs, P2.28M MJ seized
Personnel from Mountain Province PPO and PDEA Mountain Province arrested five (5) drug personalities in a police response at Sitio Oowayen, Poblacion, Sadanga, Mountain Province on October 13, 2021.
They were identified as Jonathan Fomanos Abella, 37; Jeric Arzadon Sansano, 30; Samson Amiling Damaso, 28; Sonny Kidit Kalaw, 36; and one minor.
According to Sadanga MPS, a person approached the personnel manning the checkpoint at Sitio Oowayen and informed them that a van parked approximately 3 kilometers from the checkpoint had a flat tire. Police personnel then offered to help in fixing the vehicle but when they approached the vehicle, they saw pieces of live ammunition, fired cartridges and dried marijuana bricks in a yellow sack.
There were 19 bricks weighing more or less 19 kilograms with Standard Drug Price (SDP) of Php 2,280,000.00. The live ammunition were 9 for a Cal. 9mm and the fired cartridges were 16 fin number, also for a Cal. 9mm.
Onsite inventory of the pieces of evidence was conducted in the presence of the suspects and witnessed by Barangay Chairman Eliang Anongos; Kagawad Ben Faguingas; and Kagawad Agnes Sacyafen all of Barangay Poblacion, Sadanga; and Ms. Valerie Taguba, media representative.
The arrested were brought to the Sadanga MPS (the minor was turned over to MSWDO) for documentation prior to filing of cases.**
