39 held for illegal gambling
Despite the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in relation to the COVID-19 scare, 39 individuals were caught while in the act of engaging in gambling activities region wide.
Of the 39 persons arrested, 18 for cockfighting, 10 for playing card games, 7 for playing bingo, and 4 for playing mahjong from March 17 to April 9.
Along with their arrest, cash money amounting to Php2,008.00, 18 fighting cocks, assorted playing cards and and other gambling paraphernalia were confiscated.
For the card games, the following were caught by Baguio City Police Office operatives in Km.4 Asin Road, Baguio City on the afternoon of April 6, 2020: Rey Humilan Abluyen; Jhonzel Dag-oh Elieta; Johnson Cabbigat Dulnuan; Garry Ibat Guintican; and Eric Intungnin Dagiw-a, all of legal age and residents of thereat. Another group of bettors: Walter Palonga Dayao, Patrick Conge Mangawa, Jasper Conge Balusdan. Marcial Cawi Bolduken, Marvin Cayawen y Lawad, and Christian Decina Bayao , all of legal age were arrested in West Tapao, Quirino Hill, on the afternoon of April 5, 2020. Evidence confiscated were P1,020.00 bet money and assorted bingo cards.
The following cockfighters were arrested on April 5, 2020 in Tuba, Benguet: Marcelo Pa-ang Holman; James Cabangbang Fernandez; Joel Frigillana Aquino; and Jerbi Placido Fernandez. Another group of “cockfighters” were nabbed in Sitio Lytok Brgy. Pakawit, Pinukpuk, Kalinga: Arnel Dusag Liw-agan, Jerry Daligdig Banggawan, Raymart Dapliyan Busacay, Dominic Palangya Lunis, and Renato Dela Cruz. Confiscated and from them were one (1) dead rooster, 11 fighting cocks, one (1) gaff cover, three (3) bottles of liquor, a drinking glass, one (1) cup, and one (1) pitcher.
PROCOR PNP is appealing to the public to stop their illegal activities and stay home so as not to risk their lives and that of the lives of others from the COVID 19. “For those who will continue to engage in illegal gambling and cockfighting activities, we will make sure that they will be put behind bars as multiple cases will be filed against them,” says Gen Pagkalinawan.
