Escape gone wrong: a drug personality in Kalinga arrested after jumping to the Chico River
Camp Major Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad Benguet- PROCOR operatives led by the Regional Intelligence Division (RID) together with PDEA Cordillera arrested an identified drug personality at Tabuk City in the morning of April 7, 2021.
The Provincial Director of Kalinga, PCOL DAVY VICENTE LIMMONG, identified the suspect as Ruben Appag, 27, of Loccong, Tinglayan, Kalinga.
According to the reports, in a supposed buy-bust operation, the suspect sensed that he will be transacting with a police officer, so he tried to escape by jumping from a near ravine at Kalinga Chico River.
The operating troops immediately ran after the suspect and found Appag lying near the riverbed of Chico River.
Immediately, the operatives called the assistance of the Bureau Fire Protection (BFP) to help in rescuing the suspect who incurred several injuries.
Onsite, confiscated items from the suspect were two (2) bags containing four (4) pieces of tubular form and 19 pieces in brick form of suspected marijuana dried leaves and stalks. The confiscated drugs have an estimated weight of 23 kilos with a standard drug value of Php 2,760,000.00.
During the inventory of the pieces of evidence recovered, the witnesses were Kagawads of Barangay Loccong, a media person, and a DOJ representative.
The arrested suspect was brought to Kalinga Provincial Hospital for medical treatment while appropriate charges for violating R.A 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against him.
Two iTadian illegal loggers arrested in Sagada
Camp Bado Major Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet – Two alleged illegal loggers were arrested in a forested area at Kiltepan, Batalao, Antadao, Sagada, Mountain Province in the afternoon of April 9, 2021.
Based on a report to the Regional Director PBGEN RONALD OLIVER LEE, operatives of Sagada MPS arrested two suspects after they were caught in the act of cutting a pine tree using undocumented chainsaws with serial numbers.
The suspects were identified as Nixon Gatilowan Batawang , 20, and Tony Kige-i Gatil-owan, 23, who are related, both natives of Bantey, Tadian and laborers at Sagada Mtn Province.
The report showed that operatives who were on patrol, heard the sound of a chainsaw, which prompted them to investigate and coordinate with the DENR office. The two suspects were arrested after they failed to present any pertinent document of the chainsaws or permit to the operatives.
Confiscated from them were four pieces of pine logs and two chainsaws worth Php 35,000.00 each. The sawn lumbers were scaled and stumped by DENR representative Mr Archie Tabbang. The arrested suspects and confiscated chainsaws were brought to Sagada MPS for proper disposition.
The Police Regional Office Cordillera intensifies not only its anti-illegal logging efforts but also its tree-planting program, as part of the PNP’s Core Value “Makakalikasan”. With these efforts, PROCOR recorded a total of 72,834 seedlings of fruit bearing and non- fruit bearing trees planted by its different units for the first quarter of this year.
PNP gives back to the community
Camp Major Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet – The Regional Finance Service Office-15 (RFSO-15) gives back to the community amidst the pandemic as they launched “Project Adal” through a MOA with the Schools District Office (SDO) of Benguet on April 12, 2021 at SDO Benguet Adivay Hall.
The word “Adal”, is an ilokano term for “Education”. The Project Adal also known as “Edukasyong hatid ng RFSO 15 sa gitna ng pandemya”, aims to fill in the gap and serve as a bridge to connect the children’s dream through education. With the help of the SDO Benguet in the selection of 15 financially incapacitated yet deserving grade school pupils from different municipalities of Benguet, the RFSO donated 15 brand new tablets with pocket wifis, 32 GB USBs, and internet connection subscription for the duration of school year.
The 15-learning equipment bundle will be distributed to all 13 municipalities of Benguet with one beneficiary each except for municipality of La Trinidad which has two (2) beneficiaries.
Not requiring much from the learners, the RFSO expects that the pupils must pass all the subjects with no failing grades, regardless of the numerical grades.
In her message, the OIC RFSO-15, PLTCOL ANNA LIZA T MACAPINLAC, quoted the famous commercial line, “Great things start with small beginnings”, which she said have marked in their heads as they work on project “Adal.
“A small bit from our part to help and a small step to our children to fulfill their dreams” and with those small beginnings, great things are bound to happen.
She also added, that due to the changes under the new normal many took advantage of using technology in the deliverance of service and one of it is the online classes, the reason why the PNP through the office of the RFSO-15 reached out to the most affected group, the learners from the financially challenged families who struggle to keep up with the new normal.
According to the SDO, Benguet statistics in primary level show that grade 1 has the least in terms of the availability of learning gadgets thus, they should be given more attention considering that it is where the very basic foundation of learning how to read and write.
Meanwhile, the Schools Division Superintendent, Ms Gloria B Buya-ao, expressed her gratitude to the PNP particularly to RFSO for choosing Benguet SDO as their recipient and for investing on education. She added, “because when you invest in education you are sure you are investing on the future especially on the special children (chosen beneficiaries).
Further, a MOA signing was done to strengthen the partnership of the PNP RFSO-15 and SDO Benguet which then followed by the turning-over of the 15-learning equipment bundles to the different District School Head to be delivered to the respective beneficiaries.
