Bontoc, Mtn. Prov. – The provincial government of Mountain Province through its Provincial Motor Pool Service Office has caused the gravelling and backfilling improvements on the Samoki detour bridge’s approaches last October 10-11, 2019.
This, after receipt of a request from the Bontoc Federated Association of Tricycle Operators and Drivers (BOFATOD) by Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. for the use of the province’s heavy equipment for the project. The letter, dated September 24, 2019, was from the BOFATOD requesting for the use of the province’s heavy equipment to expedite the implementation of the ongoing improvement of the Samoki detour bridge which has been causing much suffering to the public. The bridge was put up due to the ongoing reconstruction of the Chico Karayan Bridge.
In response, the governor directed the Provincial Motor Pool Services Office for the provision of one (1) Lonking Payloader, one (1) Volvo Road Grader, one (1) Ingersolran Road Roller and two (2) Hyundai and Isuzu Dump trucks to assist in the ongoing improvement project.
According to Engr. Leonardo B. Manangdang, the supervising engineer of the province’s heavy equipment, the improvement project includes gravelling, backfilling, scraping and compacting of the detour bridge’s approaches.
The materials for gravelling and backfilling were hauled from the Bontoc–Mainit Road particularly at the Teng-ab section and some will be hauled from the Sukit area. Such will also be beneficial to passersby on said roads as these will be cleared from obstructions which were just left there.
Meanwhile, Leadway Construction, the contractor for the reconstruction of the Chico Karayan Bridge, provided fuels for the heavy equipment.
“We hope that with the show of support of the Provincial Government, the construction firm will be inspired to fast-track the bridge’s construction as this is for the best interest of our people,” Gov. Lacwasan said.** Imelda U. Sawi, MP-PIO
