BAGUIO CITY (PIA) –The Philippine Statistics Authority in the Cordillera Administrative Region (PSA-CAR) underscored the collaborative efforts with various stakeholders in accomplishing its major accomplishments and innovations in ensuring that accurate and reliable data are collected, compiled and analyzed and made able for planning and policy formulation at all levels of government.
During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas on July 23 with the PSA as the featured agency, PSA-CAR Regional Director Villafe Alibuyog stressed that collective efforts, hard work and sacrifices in coming up with strategies and innovations have driven them to attain their goals.
“We have successfully completed major projects like Census of Agriculture and Fisheries, Family Income and Expenditures Survey, monthly and quarterly Labor Force Survey and other surveys being conducted by our office.
Each of the milestones represents not just individual efforts but the power of collaboration with partners and stakeholders with common shared vision,” Alibuyog said.
Another big project completed by the PSA-CAR is the Community Based-Monitoring System or the CBMS, which is an organized technology-based system of collecting, processing, and validating necessary disaggregated data that may be used for local planning, program implementation, and impact monitoring while empowering communities to participate in the process.
Alibuyog shared that in 2021, Baguio City was one of the nine local government units which piloted the conduct of the CBMS, and the data turnover ceremony was done in March 2023.
In the 2022 CBMS roll out, 61 municipalities in the Cordillera participated with 35 municipalities funded by the PSA while 26 were LGU-funded.
A 100 percent completion rate of data turnover was achieved on March 25, 2024.
This year, the PSA will conduct the 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN), and on the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., the CBMS to update the population statistics and the list of beneficiaries of social protection initiatives and other government programs and projects.
The PSA launched the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS surveys on July 12 and the enumeration started on July 15, 2024. Data gathering is expected to be completed by September 2024.
Meanwhile, on the Philippine Identification System or PhilSys registration, Gerard Tolito reported that many Cordillerans have successfully registered with the national ID system.
From May 1, 2021 to June 30, 2024, PSA CAR uploaded 1,418,450 cumulative registrations, equivalent to 86.88 percent of the 1,632,709 total target registrants in the region based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing results.
Tolito reported that as of March 31, 2024, a total of 921,025 PhilID cards were delivered and 1,035,489 printed ePhilIDs were issued.Chief Statistical Specialist and Statistical Operations and Coordination Division Chief Aldrin Federico Bahit Jr., shared that PSA CAR has successfully completed innovative and trailblazing projects such as the CAR Physical Asset and Flow Accounts for Water Resources: 2008-2018 publication which was released in November 2022, and the CAR Tourism Satellite Accounts Report: 2016-2021 that was released in May 2023. These cover flow accounts and the more challenging stock accounts for water resources of the region, and the tourism expenditures, employment on tourism industries, and the tourism share to the national tourism accounts and the economy, respectively.
Bahit said these trailblazing innovations were made possible through collaboration as he encouraged the public to provide only true information in census and surveys.
“Sana ay tulungan n’yo kami sa pagkalap ng mga datos, ibigay po ninyo ang mga truthful information sa aming nga census at surveys, “ Bahit said.
“Tuloy po ang collaboration natin sa iba pang compilation, mga different accounts, ‘yung economic statistics natin, environmental statistics. Hindi po nation ‘yun magagawa kung wala po ‘yung collaboration natin lalong -lalo na po ‘yung ibang data source agencies natin,” he added.
Also in the panel were OIC Chief Administrative Officer Juanito Yabes who presented the Birth Registration Assistance Project, and Benguet PSA chief who discussed the 2023 Economic Performance of CAR. **RMC-PIA CAR
