LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) – – A regional Metals and Engineering Innovation Center (MEIC) will soon rise at the Ifugao State University (IFSU) campus compound here.
Officials of IFSU and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Ifugao led the ground breaking for the project on June 16 strictly adhering to the minimum health protocols.
The Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC), an attached agency of the DOST, will establish the MEIC with IFSU as partner university to promote innovation culture and to develop and strengthen the capability of the manpower resources of the academe in the field of metalwork.
DOST-Cordillera Regional Director Nancy Bantog through Engr. Max Bernard Codamon, said that the region is fortunate that IFSU is among the five universities nationwide to have the MEIC as mechanism to bring science and technology and innovation to the countryside.
“Truly, IFSU and DOST are better enabled to be more responsive to the needs of the industries in the province and the Cordillera region because of this project,” Bantog stated.
IFSU President Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon lauded DOST for its central direction, leadership, and support to all scientific and technological endeavors.
Codamon assured that the university will allow the use of MEIC for promotion training, technology demonstration, and related activities for the metals and engineering sector in the Cordilleras.
MIRDC aims to be present in all regions thru the MEIC to be more responsive to the needs of the metals and engineering industries nationwide. The MEIC project is being pioneered in five regions.**JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao
