BAGUIO CITY – Religious events topbill the April line up of the “Summer Vacation (SUMVAC) in Baguio” calendar of events.
Various religious activities were mounted by ecumenical and inter-faith groups in the city for both residents and tourists this Holy Week.
Councilor Elmer Datuin and city administrator Carlos Canilao who head the preparations said traditional religious activities were lined up this month including Holy Week services in various churches, assemblies and conferences and Lenten presentations.
Stations of the Cross will be held on April 7 at the Our Lady of Atonement Baguio Cathedral at 4:00 p.m.
At 9 p.m. the Soaking! Overnight Prayer Meeting will be conducted at the EHCMI Center 3rd Floor, Hilltop Market.
Blessing of Palms is scheduled at Our Lady of Atonement Baguio Cathedral Square 4:45 p.m- 6:00 p.m April 8 and at 4:45 a.m- 7:00 p.m. on April 9.
Holy Week services are scheduled at the various churches from April 10-16 and will be capped by the staging of the inter-faith Easter Sunrise worship rites on Easter Sunday, April 16, 5 a.m. at the Malcolm Square.
United Methodist Church Bishop Rudy Juan will serve as the guest speaker during the program which will be highlighted by prayers of reflection, thanksgiving, intercession and worship.
The activity will be spearheaded by the Baguio-Benguet Ecumenical Group and the Baguio Character City Council represented by Rev. Abraham Kuis, Dr. Philian Weygan and Erlinda Tindo.
On April 9-11, the Alpha-Omega Theatrical Production will present for the first time in the city the play Senakulo depicting the life and sufferings of Jesus Christ at 6 p.m. at the Melvin Jones grandstand.
The three-night presentation will feature a cast of 250 and will be free of charge.
The Jesus Miracle Crusade Inc. will hold its gathering on April 13-16 followed by the “Iglesia ng Dios kay Kristo” Thanksgiving on April 20 at 9 a.m- 5 p.m and the Jehovah’s Witnesses Annual Circuit Assemblies on April 22-23 at 7 a.m- 5 p.m and the 2nd North Luzon Kids for Christ Family Conference April 28-30 at 8 a.m-8 p.m/ 7 a.m- 10 p.m/ 7 a.m – 12 p.m. all at the Baguio Convention Center.
The city will mark two historical events — the Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9 and the Liberation Day On April 27 with special commemoration programs at the Veterans Park.
Commencement exercises lined up are those of the Data Center College of the Phils. on April 3, 7 a.m- 5 p.m; Baguio College of Technology on April 4-5, 8 a.m- 5 p.m; Manuel L. Quezon Elem. School , April 6 at 11 a.m- 4 p.m all at the Baguio Convention Center.
On April 8, the Spiritual Journey Art Exhibit by Joel Cristobal and Celso Pepito will be mounted at the Camp John Hay at 11 a.m.
Mall events include the Audition of Little Stars at Main Mall Atrium, SM City Baguio on April 1 and the Cast Away Music Festival at The Drive, SM City Baguio on April 22.

April 7 — “Philippine Veterans Week” Medical Mission and Symposium at the Baguio Convention Center; April 17-19 Youth Prophetic Conference at the Baguio Convention Center, 9 a.m- 6 p.m; April 23 — Pastoral Care Seminar at Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary, 8 a.m.; April 24 — International Seminar-Workshop on Early Childhood Education at Cooyesan Hotel Plaza, 8 a.m; and April 24-26 — “Int’l Strategic Management” Training for Teachers and School Heads at the Baguio Convention Center
