Locals and tourists are reminded and informed of the provisions of the Anti-Distracted Walking Ordinance through a recently approved council resolution.
It may be recalled that Ordinance 49, series of 2019 regulates the use of mobile devices, prohibits reading while crossing streets, on sidewalks or on the streets. It has been observed that said activities create distraction and may cause accidents while on walkways and streets.
Thus, the ordinance is reiterated through Resolution 714, series of 2024 which was signed by Mayor Benjamin Magalong last Dec. 6.
Public awareness is needed for locals and tourists to be informed and reminded of said provisions, the resolution states.
For the effective implementation of the said ordinance, the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) must man the city’s main thoroughfares, it was further stated.
The resolution is adopted from the proposal of City Scout Councilor Ashlee Joy Sibayan during the Scout-Official-for-a-day session on Oct. 21, 2024. **Julie G. Fianza
