SADANGA, Mountain Province, Dec. 18 (PIA) — In efforts to keep the town COVID 19-free, the local government is discouraging wedding celebrations during this holiday season.
Mayor Gabino Ganggangan issued Public Advisory No. 26 on the moratorium of wedding celebrations to all residents of Sadanga and other concerned individuals in the municipality.
“Effective December 16, 2020 until further notice, the conduct of wedding celebrations in the community which inevitably draw huge crowds is hereby strongly discouraged,” the advisory stated.
The moratorium on weddings exempts civil weddings which do not include community celebrations.
“It has been observed that during the wedding celebrations that happened recently in our barangays, there was unavoidable influx of relatives and visitors both from within the municipality and from outside the province including guests from red areas including Benguet, Baguio City, Tabuk City, Tinglayan and NCR or Metro Manila. Among the attendees were tested positive of the COVID-19,” it added.
A wedding celebration in the municipality is usually a grand gathering of clan members from all over, sometimes for several days of thanksgiving and merry making.
Other forms of mass gatherings like parties and reunions and similar crowd drawing activities like caroling, are also not allowed in the municipality during the holiday season.
Ganggangan said that these measures should be observed to ensure that the municipality will remain free from the COVID-19 . He reminded the people to continue to follow all the health protocols such as wearing of face masks and face shields, observing social distancing, maintaining proper hygiene and staying healthy.
With the municipality of Barlig recording its first COVID case in Dec. 17, Sadanga is the only remaining town in the province which has no COVID-19 case. **JDP/RMC- PIA CAR
