We have seen it again the past one and a half months of continuous rains. People were forced to remain in their homes doing almost nothing. While there was not much problem among the majority, a lot must have had problems regarding their daily budgets for their families’ existence. In short, they were short on resources but they had a lot of idle time. Surplus labor therefore.
But there was demand for such labor. It is just the government should come up with the mechanism for both sectors to meet and for the utilization of what they respectively have.
Government should come up with a list by conducting surveys on what laborers factories need during rainy days and come up with an employment center where prospective employees can go and have themselves listed for possible employment before the rainy months come.
That way we can become more productive during times when so many are just idle uselessly waiting for the rainy weeks to pass by. The question is, can the government be expected to undertake such initiative?
The only way that can happen is if our leaders can be more pro active in governance if only to create more opportunities for our people. But going by how the government had been the past century, it might just wishful thinking.**
