CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, (PIA) – – The city government honored four centenarian residents and gave them cash gifts in 2017.
The four centenarians were Tomas Lawagan, 101, of Brgy. Casigayan; Onya Abay, 102, of Brgy. Nambaran; James Buyan, 102, of Brgy. Bulo and Bag-ayan Sillatoc, 100, of Brgy Bulanao. Sillatoc died in 2016 after the approval of the Centenarian Act of 2016.
Each was given a total of P180,000- P100,000 under Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarian Act of 2016; P50,000 under the Tabuk City Ordinance known as the 2016 Centenarian Act of Tabuk City and P30,000 from the Kalinga provincial government.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) had recommended 10 honorees but the others are still completing the necessary documents.
Mayor Ferdinand B. Tubban honored the elderly of the city who he said are pillars of Tabuk.
He called on the youth and other people of the city to put value to life, instead of destroying it through vices and illegal activities.
CSWDO data showed there are 9,723 senior citizens registered in Tabuk. At present, the city government provides social assistance to the sector through sponsored social pension, livelihood projects and mortuary benefits. **PIA CAR, Kalinga
