BAGUIO CITY – Team Cordillera is currently holding on to fifth place in the official overall medal tally standings of the on-going 2017 Palarong Pambansa in Antique with 18 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze medals as of 9 pm Thursday according to city sports officer Gaudencio Gonzales.
Teams from the National Capital Region, Region VI, Region IV and Region XII are presently in the 1st to 4th spots, respectively.
Regional sports coordinator Agustin Gumuwang said earlier that the Cordillera delegation hopes to improve on its 9th place finish last year in the annual sporting event backed by the Department of Education.
“We are not promising anything but with the dedication of our coaches and trainers in preparing our athletes, we are hoping for an improvement in our standing this year,” he added.
Gumuwang pointed out that the Cordillera delegation is facing very strong competition from other regions including events usually dominated by Cordillerans in the past Palaro competitions like combative sports.**gaby keith
