They don’t even have to receive an official communication they are being called back home. Upon hearing of any trouble in their country which need the cooperation of citizens, they would immediately start packing their bags and make arrangements on how to go back to Israel. No ifs and buts. It does not really matter, if they are on a honeymoon, if they have to leave young kids or new businesses still struggling through birth pains and teetering on being discontinued after making huge investments, or trekking Mount Pulag or the mountains of Sagada or Mt. Apo, or snorkeling underwater somewhere. . . . . they just have to drop everything.
Call it whatever you want but the underlying reasons are love for their country and their compatriots. Such developed on every Israeli loyalty to their country and to its people. And most of all, the courage and stamina to fight for these anytime— at the cost of everything including one’s life.
Do we as Filipinos have such? Sadly, NO! And for some good reasons.
Many of us would not like to sacrifice even if it only means having to get out a little bit and for a while from our comfort zones. Why?
Because we don’t have any feeling of ownership of our country. It is owned by our leaders and the economic elite (they are intertwined) who treat public coffers as their private piggy banks. There is nothing much they give us for a better life, or to empower us for a secure future. We have to struggle on our own for our individual and respective family’s economic security. Whatever we got or are getting from this country and its government are just minuscule compared to what we are entitled to from the riches of this nation.
Yes, we cannot say, this country is yours, mine and ours. It is theirs.**
