BONTOC, Mtn. Prov.– In a bid to enhance the tourism prospects of this province and to provide capability-building for tourism industry manpower, the Provincial Tourism Office in coordination with the Department of Tourism – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOT-CAR) will be conducting the Tourist Drivers as Tourism Frontliners Seminar on October 24-25, 2018 at the Ridgebrooke Hotel and Restaurant here.
The seminar is a 2-day training utilizing lectures/discussions, workshop exercises, and demonstrations as methodologies.
Members of the operators and drivers’ associations around the province are being invited to attend as they can play big roles in boosting the promotion of the tourism industry as they are the first to interact with tourist going to tourism destinations.
Mainly, operators and drivers’ association are composed of jeepneys and buses operating in the different parts of the province.
Tricycle drivers are also being invited to attend the training as tricycles are the most often used mode of transportation that even tourists use.
There are also tourism transport groups in the province that operate for tourism purposes with the use of vans.
Last month, the tourism office also conducted a training for accommodations, lodging houses and homestays. Likewise, a training for tour guides was conducted.
In a letter of Jovita Ganongan, the DOT-CAR officer in charge, to Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan, she highlighted the fact that trainings are being conducted to improve tourism in all aspects.
“We trust that this training will bring mutual benefits for the province and the region in general”, she stated in the letter.
Meanwhile, the tourism agency informed the province that they are producing provincial flyers for the marketing and promotion of tourist attractions in the region.
The flyers contain images of iconic attractions, indigenous food, local cuisine or festivals and other tourism assets in the province.
“To gain national and international market share, we wish to strengthen our strategies to create a long-lasting favorable image of destinations”, stated Ganogan in another letter.**Roger Sacyaten
