Rex Wa-o may headline the 42-round, seven bout boxing event that is eyed to raise funds to help victims of supertyphoon Ompong in Itogon, Benguet.
Slated on Oct. 30 at the People’s Park, Brico Santig of Highland Boxing Promotions said that it will be a one-day boxing event with seven bouts including a two main header for two Luzon Professional Boxing titles.
Santig said the Tadian, Mountain Province will face Dan Manosa of Metro Manila for the Luzproba super featherweight title.
“We need a local hero to bring out the crowd,” said Santig, who will arrive from Thailand today to rev up preparation for the event that starts at 12 noon and concluded before 5PM.
As co-main event, it will be the LUZPROBA Featherweight title at stake with Jelbirt Gomera of La Trinidad, Benguet facing Jayson Nicart of Bacoor,Cavite
The supporting bouts will be the six round matches of Rey Juntilla (La Trinidad, Benguet) and Jeson Berwela (Batangas City), a superfeatherweight bout and featherweight bout of Mj Uduna (Kiangan, Ifugao) facing Mark Jequinto (Zamboanga Sibugay)
Four round bouts will be: welterweight of Ador Torres of La Trinidad, Benguet against Prabjot Singh (India), light flyweight bout between Mark Anthony Autida of La Trinidad, Benguet anx Jhun Jhun Rimasog (Muntinlupa City); and featherweight bout between Randolf Bantiyen of Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya) and Tuba native Chris Miguel.
The day-long event is “not only aimed to promote boxing here or seek new faces that will be our country’s pride in the near future but a boxing for a cause to benefit our fellow Benguet residents in Itogon devastated by the Category 5 typhoon Ompong recently,” said Santig, who has developed champions.
Santig said that there will be two co-main headers of eight rounds, while two six rounders are also slated during the ay-long tournament which he will stage with help from the Games and Amusement Board.
Three preliminary bouts of four rounds each are also scheduled.
Subtitled Boxing and Busking, the day-long event will have eight bands/musicians to perform later in the day to unite Baguio and Benguet people specially during times of disaster.
Artists booth will be set up also around the ring.
