Why had some of the top guns of this administration been resigning? There had already been a number of secretaries of the Presidential Office Communications Office who left. And now the secretary of the Department of Information Communications Technology had just tendered his resignation which appeared to have been immediately accepted.
These people, presumably, were competent in delivering the goods required of them. Or was that the reason they did not last long?
They were supposed to communicate the good news about what the government is doing for the people. Particularly in improving their lives and their future and those of their progeny.
For them to be effective or believable, they have to tell us the truth about what is really happening in government. And about its plans for us.
But what if there is really no good news to convey? That is, the people leading us are really just concerned about their hold onto political power but not the welfare of the people.
Therein lies the rub. How can you convey good news out of bad news?
Good communicators can prostitute themselves and they can effectively lie to the people. But no intelligent or competent and respectable professional will ever do that. It would be better for him to resign.
So, is that what had been happening? Were they being ordered to hoodwink the people. To come out with good news when there really was never any?
No matter how good communication officers of the government are, the real score about how people are faring cannot be hidden. How can you hide the fact we are economically hard up? That prices of basic commodities are becoming higher and higher like a runaway train?
You can come up with credible reasons as justification but only once, twice or even three times. Beyond that, nobody will believe you. Better resign if you cannot do any better.
Am sure they felt a lot better after doing just that.**
