24 February 2022 – With March as women’s month, various activities are scheduled with focus on women’s welfare, health issues, proper information and involvement in present situations and circumstances.
This year’s theme is “We make change work for women.”
The following activities were agreed upon during virtual meetings with involved offices and agencies, including the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Outstanding Women Leaders (OWLs), Balikatan, Innabuyog, Kalipi, City Mayor’s Office, Health Services Office (HSO), Sangguniang Panlungsod, the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), barangays, and other civic organizations.
For the whole month of March; district health centers will offer free pap smear, the assessment of Violence against Women desk functionality in all barangays will be conducted, a livelihood fair for women entrepreneurs and wellness zumba were scheduled through the office of Councilor Lilia Farinas.
The awarding of the Outstanding Women Leaders (OWLS) will be done on March 28 at city hall, after search, selection and validation were done since November last year.
A One Billion rising (OBR) activity with women’s groups was also conducted last Feb. 14, in coordination with the barangays.
Women with Disabilities Enhancement Sessions on VAW, Benefits and Privileges, Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health are scheduled on March 4, 7, 14, 21; in coordination with the Persons With Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), CSWDO, HSO, and BCPO.
The launching of the 2022 Kababaihan festival happens at city hall on March 7, during the flag raising ceremonies.
A “WOMENtor” online career guidance for girls is scheduled on March 8 with the JCI Baguio Sunflower group, and Purple Tuesdays on March 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29.
A cooking contest shall be conducted with the Kalipi women’s group at the City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) on Mar. 9, women ’s wellness and self-care through the CSWDO unit 9 and Irisan barangay; and a Women’s health forum are slated on March 11 with the Kalipi at the HSO.
A gender mainstreaming training in the barangays in coordination with the office of Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda and the Kalipi will go on March 10; and on March 17, a computer literacy training for women is conducted in coordination with the Department of Information, Communication and Technology (DICT), Balikatan and Kalipi women’s group.
Fora on gender-based violence on March 18, “Keeping Our Girls Safe” through the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP); and “I say no to VAW,” through socio-civic groups, would be done on March 19.
On March 25, a self-enhancement for women through talent competition and training on Baking for Irisan women are scheduled through the CSWDO. An “I say no to VAW” outreach shall be done on March 26.
An election round table discussion with lady candidates is slated on March 30, and the BCPO sponsors a content contest on anti-rape and anti-VAWC, with submission on March 1 to 25 and awarding on March 31.
