The biggest hindrance to being successful in attaining the objectives of one’s New Year’s resolution is ego, or worse, arrogance. These not only block an objective assessment of what needs to be done. Along with that is also the failure to accept what one can and cannot do. A requirement here is the humility to accept one’s ability or the lack of it. Do you have the skills, the knowledge and the required stamina to see things through? Do you have access to the resources to get to the goal?
A negative response to these means it is better to forget landing in a better situation this 2025. Accepting defeat at the outset is a failure of evolution. The inability to use the human brain that took millions of years to happen from the animal kingdom.
Only with humility can one accept what is lacking and then search for remedies. Skills can be learned, determination can be mustered over time, material resources can be obtained through resourcefulness and doggedness. The starting point is the mental strength to beg, borrow and steal if need be to reach the end of the tunnel.
Lack of these is usually defensively masked through highfalutin words and other manifestations of pride and arrogance. Not only will you alienate everybody. You will also look so pitiful. If you are in debt or bankrupt, might as well gracefully come to terms with it and make amends. Blustering about it will lead you nowhere.
Everybody can see through empty boasts. The most damage though is inflected on so many others if accomplished through arrogant acts. Always, such are unethical if not downright criminal and immoral. The more influence or power one wields in society, the more the damage. A politician who arrogantly steps on everybody (not just their toes) might accomplish some of his goals in the short term but in the end these will backfire with a vengeance. At that stage, there would be no stopping nature.
History is witness to how ignominious were the fall of the wealthy, powerful or influential. They were often driven out by force or would languish in ignominy after their fall from grace. The time will always come. Only a fool will think otherwise.**
