She is barely out of her teens yet it took her, a very young lady to make Filipinos proud to the whole world. How about the political leaders of this country? They made Filipinos so ashamed. They made us, the ordinary people, poor and yet this country is very rich.
Even after admitting there is so much corruption around, they cannot even file cases to send the perpetrators to jail. Because they are the perpetrators themselves in cahoots with their co-conspirators in the bureaucracy and in the private sector.
And when their backs are pushed to the wall to do something, they will just go through the motions of filing cases only to subsequently dribble these indefinitely while finding ways to make their friends, relatives and co-conspirators go scot-free.
So the people pin their hopes on the likes of Alex Eala because those who are supposed to lead us to higher ground are busy robbing us blind. With such young athletes, at least, they make us happy and proud even if only momentarily.
Something, however, should be done collectively to our wretched condition. Harsh it might be.**
