Either you hate him or you are a fanatic for him. What is important is US President-Elect Donald Trump is riling the US government. He is introducing things long been obvious but nobody wanted to disturb a misrepresentation of an “inconvenient truth.” We, in the Philippines, at least in this respect, should learn from him.
The latest from international networks is he will create a Department of Government Efficiency to be headed by billionaires Elon Musk and former presidential contender, Vivek Ramaswamy.
As a justification, he says, there are thousands of US government employees and officers who should be let go, to save trillions of dollars. In short, these people in the federal government are practically useless. Particularly mentioned by him during the campaign were what he called “woke generals” in the military or armed services. Some say it is a revenge act but even opponents agree the federal government needs a lot of stream lining.
Multiply such kinds of problems several times over and you come up with the Philippine situation. A lot of processes and people in government are redundant or inefficient. The problem has been festering since eternity. Finally, it was officially admitted with the passage of our home-grown “anti-red tape law” whose efficacy has yet to be proven.
The US measure which was thought about by Trump, considered as unhinged by many, but might be able to bulldoze it into implementation despite legal obstacles. Our anti-red-tape law was also rammed into existence by Duterte who, euphemistically, is likewise unhinged.
It takes such kinds of people to “call a spade a spade” no matter how unpopular. The general populace anywhere are usually brainwashed by the elite to think it is impossible to dismantle what have long been there, no matter how inefficient or disadvantageous to, or how exploitative of, the people. If leaders in this country cannot come up with crazy or revolutionary ways for the people to realize justice– economically, politically and in day-to-day life, some social upheavals will not be far behind. This was the reason Donald Trump had a land slide victory. It was the same reason Duterte overwhelmingly won as president despite what he said that corpses will litter the land, or will fill rivers and creeks.
Do we have to wait for more violent ways?**
