HINGYON, Ifugao – – The Ifugao police force continues to find strategies to help abate the occurrence of rape in the community, which remains a concern in the province.
The Ifugao Police Provincial Office (IPPO)recently launched operation “Ammuna” (enough/stop) in Umalbong, this town. This supports Operation “Panio” (taboo) which was initiated last year wherein police personnel conducted house to house information drives about rape prevention.
With the many restrictions during the current community quarantine due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic, this time under Operation “Ammuna”, tarpaulins bearing the localized theme and contact numbers of the police will be placed in conspicuous areas for awareness.
Safety tips against rape including punishments for rape cases will also be printed in tarpaulins for the general public to read and understand.
IPPO data shows that from January to July 2020, the province recorded 16 rape incidents where 14 occurred in residential houses and one each in the ricefield and recreational place.
Operation “Ammuna” will be adopted in the different municipal police stations on partnership with the municipal advisory councils and the community as a whole.
Some of the people during the launching suggested the passage of a provincial ordinance regulating the use of cellphones in schools and if possible concerned government agencies will request for the deletion of all downloadable pornographic materials in the internet. **JDP/MBL-PIA CAR, Ifugao
