ITOGON, Benguet– A miner died of gas poisoning that transpired at Sitio Luneta, Barangay Loacan of Itogon, Benguet at 6:00 am of October 17, 2017.
Police report identified the victim as Rene Degma, 27, married, farmer, miner, native of Besao Proper, Besao, Mountain Province and presently residing at Camp 7, Baguio City.
His lifeless body was discovered by Robert Venus Bobiles inside their tunnel when he went to switch on the blower.
Accordingly, the victim was believed to be an intruder at the said tunnel.
The cadaver was retrieved by miners, barangay tanods/BPATs and Loacan responders.
Nobody noticed the incident but the victim might have fallen into a deep sinking hole more or less five meters deep after inhaling an alleged natural gas as shown by the victim’s visible of swelling neck, swelling right arm, abrasion on the right foot and abrasion on the middle finger left hand.
The body of the victim was brought to Benguet General Hospital Morgue at La Trinidad, Benguet for autopsy. Case is under follow up investigation. **Ferdie Cariño Castañeda
