So many lives have been ruined because of gambling. Now, with technology, such as E-Sabong we have made things easier, thus, accelerating our travel on the road to perdition. Talks are rife of careers destroyed, dreams ending up in hell, marriage broken, children’s future in limbo, etc.
All because of our materialistic society. While that is not necessarily bad if controlled by sanity, most of the time people go crazy and aspire to own or win the whole world. Instead of dreaming to achieve through blood, sweat and tears they opt for short-cuts like gambling. With that kind of vice all sorts of it follow. Then crimes would not be far behind.
Government, therefore, should ban such games of chance. Or at the very least, regulate it to minimize the damage to people and to society.
Of paramount importance is avoiding children and those of weak mind from getting hooked into the vice. And making it generally difficult for others to get into it. This can be done by making it expensive or imposing a lot of restrictions. For the reality is worth repeating that the hard way is the enduring way.
A society of gamblers is a very weak one. It cannot assure the welfare of its citizens or their health and well-being. Everything will deteriorate, not just social services and government in general, even the people’s physical and mental health.
The end, of course, when people are too far gone, the country will become very weak easily manipulated or controlled by others. Further deterioration would mean its becoming a failed state to be practically subjugated by stronger ones.
As individuals, what we can do is to prevent those around us from becoming gamblers. A good place to start are our families, then our friends and others we can influence. Likewise, we must be vocal to make our leaders know a lot of people are against gambling and politicians condoning such will not be able to maintain themselves in power. Not for long.**
