It could result in more conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis, building up on painful memories of the past. Carnage on the part of the Israelis and humiliation of defeat after defeat on the part of the Arabs. Small skirmishes can become bigger until they become uncontrollable. War could even result, and when that happens we are not immune from its effects.
So many Cordillerans are working in Israel and a lot more in neighboring Arab countries which are producing the oil we are importing for our vehicles and industries. Oil prices will go up and so many employers will have to cost cut, laying off many employees.
And planeloads of OFWs from the Middle East will be disembarking at our airports, immensely contributing to our list of jobless.
The “unavoidable war” in Korea– as described by North Korea— will have the same effect on our jobless and economy. In short, life would be tough for all of us.
The OFW families that saved and did not recklessly spend their money would be better off. But those who thought the flow of money from abroad was endless and spent as if there was no tomorrow whatever was sent to them would really find themselves in a very bad situation—even worse than where they were before. Some might even go literally crazy.
The moral of the situation is not to waste the hard earnings of family members abroad. Every penny of it should be considered the result of sweat, tears and blood, which is what it is.
While we pray that no war will happen in the aforesaid global regions, we must prepare for the worst, as we should have been doing the past many years.
As we continue to hope for the best.**
