There is a lot of hullabaloo about the dropping of charges against Kerwin Espinosa and his co-drug lord Peter Lim. Senators are hawing, other high ranking officials are hemming and PDu30 is supposed to be very angry, even to the extent of saying that he might change Aguirre as DOJ secretary.
Who are they fooling? Will Sec. Aguirre or his minions cause the dropping of charges against these two without the blessings of Malacanang? Definitely not.
So why the dropping of charges? What’s the deal?
Yes there must have been a deal, a very big deal. If this administration is still serious about the drug war, then the deal that can be acceptable to the people is if these two “drug lords” could give away 20 more high value drug lords each. This might be acceptable to the people.
But if they got off the hook by merely testifying against De Lima, then that would be unacceptable to the people. Unless De Lima is really a drug queen and with her goes down hundreds of others involved in the drug trade.
If, however, De Lima is going down because she picked on somebody’s ego or because of her dalliances, then that is not leadership. That is being egoistic.
Leadership means looking after the welfare of the greater majority rather than the interest of a few, including oneself.
If the deal was for sacks and sacks of money for some powerful people, then this country is done for. Then it means we have miserably lost the drug war, if not ourselves as a country.
So, again, what is the deal? From where we are sitting along with co-members of the masses, the dropping of charges against Espinosa and Lim is incredible. It is not in accord with the supposed serious war against illegal drugs. It is not even in accord with common sense.
What’s the deal, the masses asks, that officials are hiding from us? For how much, for whom, or for what?**
