Aside from corruption, among so many other things, red tape is one thing blocking our progress as a nation. So, we should not vote for those who tasted political power and yet were unable to do something about the problem. It means they are ineffective in working for our welfare.
And it is easy to identify such politicians. We all do some transactions with government or its instrumentalities. If your life did not change at all when dealing with these, then red tape as far as you are concerned did not change. You are as cursed as you were since the last turn-over of political power. The obvious thing to do, therefore, is try voting for other politicians. Either that or wage a revolution.
The problem with government, or most of it anyway, is there is no sincere effort to painstakingly look at things to make life easier for people. These are kind of easy to identify. For instance, how much paper work are required from people in dealing with a certain government office? Reduce this and you certainly would have reduced red tape. But nobody is doing that. What government is doing is to keep on adding paper requirements people must satisfy. They keep on piling up.
It is generally described as ease of doing business. Everybody is talking about it but nothing is being done about it.
Thus, who to vote for? Just look at the number of papers you had to accomplish the last time you did business at city hall. If, these were not reduced the last time you went there, then try the new political kid in town.**
