Come the casting of your ballots, there is one very important thing to remember. Don’t vote for the glib talkers. We have aplenty of these among political candidates. They are usually not action people. They would not do much for the people. They will always think they can get away by talking their way out.
For we are by nature and by the calendar Gemini people—talkative. Yes, that is our horoscope. So it is not accidental the Philippines is the text and social media capital of the world. We are the intergalactic rumor mongers of the universe. When interplanetary travel will become as convenient and readily available as our lowly “dyipney,” it would be common to see Filipinos going all the way to Pluto to enjoy having some “chismis” with a friend.
So just by the speeches of candidates in the hustings, it will be so difficult to find out if a candidate is just glib. Throw in how shallow we voters think, and there goes the reason why our sorry state as a country.
The way to go is by politicians’ record in public service. For there is no way anybody can erase a politician’s public record. It will be always there for all to see.
Another thing to avoid is voting for the vote buyer. Such a guy will end up stealing our money. He is superbly business minded. He will recoup his capital used to buy your votes a millions times by stealing our money.
Thus, if there is a homework you must do before casting your vote, dig deep into the nature of a candidate as a person.**
