It is rainy season again. But even with the season’s regularity we seem to be always unprepared for its victims. Up to now we don’t have buildings specifically for that purpose. Much less to stock them up with the proper medicines and food for those who will be rushed to them. Funds could have been allocated for these but when the time comes these might have already disappeared into the pockets of politicians. For our politician-thefts are not only there in the upper ladders of the political hierarchy. They are also there even in the lowest rungs like in the barangays.
In effect, therefore, we will never be prepared. So, we the people should prepare individually for ourselves, for our loved ones, and for our neighbors if we have something to spare. For relying on the government and government officials is never the right attitude. The right one is for us to rely on ourselves.**
