After the devastation brought about by the recent rains, the people who have suffered the most, the poorest and most unfortunate are faced with the task of rebuilding. To rebuild all that they have lost with the limited resources they have and with public officials leaving them out to dry.
Again, they expect us all to recover from the devastation and simply move on.
No matter how unfair it is, the responsibility to help the masses are ourselves. When it is our leaders’ role to do just that, they remain out of touch and only content to send out a measly relief package.
The task to change this country is not in the government’s hands. Just as we are forced to help one another to recover from the rains, we are also responsible in changing the current structure of our society. They have no intention to improve the lives of the people but to make sure we remain docile.
We cannot rely on our own government. That has been the norm. We can vote wisely but it is not enough. The desire to improve the lives of our compatriots is absent in government offices, it is only present in our fellow Filipinos, those who work and suffer day and night. Hence, change for our pitiful state is possible and it is on us to make it possible not them.**
