They have been jockeying and they will continue to jockeying until the last minute of this administration for positions in government or in government controlled corporations (GOCCs). Usually such characters could not compete in the private sector. Not all of them though. Some have actually well-established or big businesses but they want to be in government positions in order to control business contracts with such entities.
To render efficient and effective public service is not their intention. Nor do they want to change the work ethic or “corporate culture” in such entities. Many of them, if not all of them, believe that such idealism is quixotic.
They would even tell you, “if that is your attitude, you will not last long in government or in GOCCs. Well-entrenched are the syndicates there that have made such entities their milking cows and they would take you down in no time. And you will end up saying, joining such entities was the worst decision I ever made in my life.”
After many years, one would say, wasted years, wasted careers, the opportunity to develop one’s potential has become water under the bridge.
Yet, why do joining government and GOCCs is still a dream for so many? It is because of greed for money and material things. And this is due to the mistaken belief that such is prestigious. Quite the opposite. More are the people who look down on those who end up being political factotums if only to ingratiate themselves to appointing officials.
Why don’t they go by their own merit? Because they lack such.
They are now in a rush to get appointed before their connections fade away when they lose in the coming elections. **
