Finally, something right happened at BENECO which should have been done long ago. This was the firing of directors and officers who had been committing financial anomalies but were left free to swagger around like they were as saintly as Mother Teresa.
How about officers and employees who were employed or appointed anomalously? Some of them were even scandalously unqualified to the positions where they were appointed. Being the girlfriend of an officer who wields power in the cooperative is not an acceptable qualification.
How about officers who let such anomalies to happen without any accountability on the part of the perpetrators? At the very least they should be considered grossly negligent and should have been also fired. Immense corporate powers go with it immense responsibility, to paraphrase so many wisemen who came before us. Such has become a common principle to guide those who are in power. This was even made even more popular by the stupid movie SPIDERMAN. What does this mean? Anybody who does not know about it or do not apply it has just a two-digit IQ. They only thrive in organizations like BENECO.
Now it is also showtime for those interim appointees as directors or officers. Are they as bad as the outgoing officials and directors? Or do they have some leadership ability and basic morals to hold us in awe? In no time we will see by their actions or decisions.
Then there was talk of a local politician who exerted a lot of effort to get his fair-haired boy to be retained as one of the top honchos in the cooperative. That was a shameful actuation. Were they partners in crime?
It is the bane of this country. Politicians are the main reason we are a third world country and are even pushing us to slide even further down the rankings. With them pervading every aspect of our society, it would not be long before we will find our country among those in the fourth world category. But then again, the last time we looked, the phrase great politicians or honest politicians were contradictions in terms. There is no greatness in the kind of muck where they live or in the corruption which constitute their comfort zones. They are where they are living by their own norms considered despicable in a relatively normal world.
They might be thumbing their noses at us now with their ill-gotten wealth but wait when their bad karma ripen and fall. You will be happy that all along, the last laugh was there in us commoners waiting to burst forth.**
