The resignation of the vice-president as education secretary is a clear sign the election process is already in high gear. Her breaking away from the Marcoses means she is not there bet. It might be Martin Romualdez or the President’s sister, I mee. So the continuation of the dynasty?
And talks are now rife former Vice-President Robredo might throw her hat into the ring. Her clarion call is to continue what her late husband started. For the improvement local governance.
But dynasty or not, our life will still be difficult. Changes are nowhere on how the government is being run. Politicians are not solving things to make life better, much less the future. Take education, for instance. We are the laughing stock of the whole world being at the bottom in world rankings, particularly among elementary and high school students. A lot of them are just being passed to the next grades even if they could hardly read, much less construct simple sentences. And what did our politicians or so-called leaders do? Practically nothing. Just a lot of grandstanding.
With very low quality of education our youth are getting, our future, are practically hopeless in a world getting more and more globalized and competitive. The jobs available to the next generation might just be the crumbs.
Then there is our famous red tape which could not be solved. The best we could do appears to be just to pass the anti-red tape law. Was it effective? No. Everything is still so difficult in the processing of whatever papers. Thus, the cost of doing business in this country is so high due to inefficiency and corruption.
Yes, corruption is everywhere. Those who are bold enough to denounce it are actually as corrupt as the rest. They are even worse as they even shield their dastardly ways with hypocrisy.
So what is our point? Rely on yourself. Do not rely on government and on political promises. That way, you will be able to surmount whatever difficulty that will come your way. Most of all you will maintain your self-respect as your brain and creativity will continue to improve.**
